AT&T iPhone 18 Pro Max Connectivity Issue Persists; Carrier Points to iOS 27.0.1

AT&T customers with iPhone 18 Pro Max are reporting dropped calls, texts, data and 911 access. AT&T has told users to install iOS 27.0.1, but some say the fix is not universal.

The issue appears limited to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to ZDNet. Posts on Reddit and other support forums describe phones randomly dropping into SOS mode, while Wi-Fi connectivity continues to work. AT&T has not explained what is causing the problem. Because other iPhone 18 models are not affected, ZDNet reported that the issue may be tied to the Qualcomm modem used in the Pro Max; the other iPhone 18 models use Apple's C2 modem.

AT&T sent customers a text message urging them to update. The message said: “Hi, it’s AT&T. Action needed: An important Apple Software update for your iPhone 18 Pro Max is available. Some phones may be unable to complete calls/text/data, including to 911. Update to iOS 27.0.1 immediately – Settings > General > Software Update. Please contact AT&T or Apple if you have questions.”

The iOS 27.0.1 update fixes a freezing problem, a Face ID glitch and several smaller issues, according to ZDNet, but its description does not mention AT&T, the phone’s modem or network issues. ZDNet reported that applying the update should still be the first step for users having AT&T connectivity problems.

Some users said the iOS 27.0.1 update worked, but Reddit posts indicated it did not fix the problem for everyone, according to ZDNet. An AT&T representative told ZDNet: “Apple has released a software update to address an issue that may affect calls, data, texts and 911 calls on a small number of Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max phones. AT&T customers with an iPhone 18 Pro Max should update their phones now to the latest available software. Our top priority is ensuring customers can stay connected when they need it most, and we are working with Apple to make it right.” The representative added that customers who continue to experience issues can return to Apple or an AT&T store for extra support.
