TechRadar says the 27-inch 5K BenQ MA270S is an excellent lower-cost alternative to Apple's Studio Display for Mac creators.

The monitor sells for just under $1,000 on BenQ's website and is also available from Amazon and other online retailers, according to the review. BenQ also offers a 32-inch version, the MA320UG, with the same type of panel, the article noted.

TechRadar tested the MA270S alongside a BenQ RD monitor, using the MA270S in a vertical orientation. The reviewer described the glossy finish as similar to that of a Studio Display or a high-end MacBook, and said glare from a nearby window stopped being a concern once the monitor was set up. The package includes the stand, documentation and all necessary cables, including HDMI and USB-C, so users can get started without buying extra cables.

According to the review, the monitor's build and port layout help create a clean Mac desk setup, and it can run through a docking station with a single cable when paired with the reviewer's MacBook Pro M4 Pro 14-inch. The built-in speakers are described as serviceable for virtual meetings or background lo-fi music, but not strong enough for serious music listening; the reviewer recommended headphones or an external speaker for better audio.

The main drawbacks cited in the review are the weak speakers for music and the fact that 5K resolution may not be necessary for every creator. Even so, the reviewer wrote that the MA270S had been "an absolute treat" and expressed strong enthusiasm for the monitor.
