Bentley reveals Torcal, its first EV: 876bhp, 375-mile range, from £173,300
Bentley has published full details of the Torcal, its debut electric SUV, which offers up to 876bhp, a 375-mile range and a starting price of £173,300, with first deliveries due in summer 2027.
The Torcal is built on Porsche's PPE architecture, both brands sitting inside the Volkswagen Group, and shares chassis, suspension and powertrain components with the Porsche Cayenne Electric. At roughly five metres long it is slightly shorter than the Bentayga. Bentley has emphasised what it calls a "bold new design language, rooted in Bentley's DNA" rather than the shared underpinnings, with an illuminated front grille, sculpted surfaces and pronounced rear haunches. Styling cues come from the EXP 15 Concept Car.
A dual-motor setup makes the Torcal the most powerful Bentley yet, with 876bhp in the range-topping S version. That is below the 1,140hp of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, but Bentley says the sportier S will reach 60mph from rest in 2.8 seconds. A 113kWh battery pack delivers the quoted 375-mile range, and charging at up to 400kW should allow a 10-80% top-up in under 20 minutes.
Because Bentley has abandoned its plan to go all-electric by 2030 and will instead offer a mix of powertrains, the company has tried to carry its V8 and V12 heritage into the electric car's sound. The "Bentley Dynamic Symphony" is built from recordings of real instruments — drums, viola and bass guitar — intended to reproduce the small variations and imperfections of a large V8. It grows louder in Sport mode. The indicator note comes from a recording of hammers striking leather in the Bentley workshop, and the touchscreen feedback noise is taken from the sound of a crystal glass.
The cabin keeps knurled physical controls and dials. A Comfort Mode in the infotainment system reduces on-screen distractions, and an optional digital detox setting hides everything but the most essential information.
TechRadar, which reported the details, attributes the pricing to unnamed sources: £173,300 for the Torcal, equivalent to about $230,000 or AU$326,000, and £199,300 for the Torcal S, equivalent to about $263,000 or AU$375,000. The same report uses two spellings for the model, calling it the Torcan in its summary bullet points and the Torcal throughout the body text.
Bentley has spent months teasing the car, previously disclosing its synthesised engine notes and its inspiration from the EXP 15 Concept Car. The Torcal will sit alongside the existing Bentayga in a line-up that will continue to include combustion-engined models.
