9to5Mac's August 2026 buyer's guide lists the best MacBook deals, with savings on MacBook Air, Neo, and Pro models despite recent memory-shortage price increases.

According to the guide, Macs had been becoming more affordable in recent years, with cheaper starting points and the introduction of the $699 MacBook Neo. However, the memory shortage has led Apple to drastically increase prices, making the current discounts particularly useful for shoppers. Despite the higher prices, 9to5Mac says today's Macs still offer good value compared with the rest of the computing market.

For the MacBook Air, which remains a solid entry-level choice despite the Neo's arrival, the guide lists several 13-inch and 15-inch models with M5 chips. On Amazon, a 13-inch M5 MacBook Air with 512GB storage and 16GB memory costs $1,259. The 1TB/16GB version is $1,499, marked down $100, and the 1TB/24GB version is $1,699, also $100 off. For the 15-inch model, prices include $1,499 for 512GB/16GB, $1,729 for 1TB/16GB ($70 off), and $1,924 for 1TB/24GB ($75 off). Apple's refurbished store offers a 15-inch M5 MacBook Air with 1TB/16GB for $1,529.

The MacBook Neo, Apple's first affordable MacBook at $699, comes with compromises such as an A18 Pro chip, fewer ports, and 8GB of memory, but the build quality, display, and macOS experience remain strong. No notable retail discounts are available on new Neo models, but Apple sells refurbished units for $100 to $120 less. Amazon offers the Neo for $689 with 256GB/8GB and $789 with 512GB/8GB and Touch ID; Apple's refurbished prices are $599 and $679, respectively.

For the MacBook Pro, the guide notes that Apple is reportedly redesigning high-end variants later this year with OLED displays, touchscreens, and thinner designs. That redesign will debut only with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, so buyers of base M5 models or those not interested in the redesign can safely purchase now. Deals on the 14-inch MacBook Pro include $1,849 for the M5 with 1TB/16GB ($150 off), $2,049 for the M5 with 1TB/24GB ($150 off), and $2,299 for the M5 Pro with 1TB/24GB ($200 off). Refurbished 14-inch models at Apple include an M4 with 1TB/16GB for $1,609 and an M5 with 1TB/16GB for $1,699.

On the 16-inch MacBook Pro, Amazon is offering the M5 Pro with 1TB/24GB for $2,759 ($240 off), the M5 Pro with 1TB/48GB for $3,299 ($300 off), and the M5 Max with 2TB/36GB for $3,999 ($400 off). Apple's refurbished store lists a 16-inch M5 Pro with 1TB/24GB for $2,549. The guide also includes free trial offers for Apple services, but the core focus is on the laptop deals currently available.
