Blip launcher targets dual-screen Android gaming handhelds
Developer Endika is building Blip, an Android launcher for single- and dual-screen gaming handhelds.
On dual-screen hardware, Blip splits the interface across both panels for games built to use two displays. When a game is meant for a single screen, the second display shows material such as game art, instruction booklets or information about the title instead of duplicating the game view.
Endika is also working on a feature called Blip Cloud, which backs up game saves and syncs them between devices.
The launcher comes as dual-screen Android handhelds multiply. Android Authority lists the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite Plus and the AYN Thor among current examples, and notes that Anbernic has a new dual-screen model that could begin shipping in December. Those devices already ship with their own Android frontends, but owners are not limited to the software installed at the factory, the report said.
The report did not include a release date or pricing for Blip, and did not specify which version of the launcher is currently available for testing.
