Blizzard says WoW: Forever hides thousands of beta-disabled secrets

Blizzard says WoW: Forever holds thousands of beta-disabled secrets, some deeply hidden for players to find after launch.

Speaking with host Josh Corbett and other developers, Greenfield confirmed the “thousands” figure after being asked about secrets not found in the beta. He said Blizzard disabled many secrets for the first 30 levels and that players will find content the team did not surface during testing. “There’s definitely some secrets and stuff that we had turned off,” Greenfield said. “There’s going to be things to discover that we didn’t surface, suffice to say that.”

Greenfield said the team has expanded and that individual designers hid their own content in “nooks and crannies” before switching it off for the beta. He described “all kinds of things” left to uncover, including “emergent behaviors” that have come from what players found and new technology tools available to developers. He declined to elaborate on specific secrets, saying too much detail would remove the fun.

Lead encounter designer Michael Nuthals said some features found in the game could appear in future WoW: Forever content. He pointed to homes or manors that players have found, including Manor Mistmantle in Duskwood, and said instance portals may be hidden in inconspicuous spots. “There might be some homes, some manors, out there that folks have found that might be something interesting in the future,” Nuthals said. “You might have seen some instance portals hiding in some inconspicuous spots.”

WoW: Forever is scheduled to launch on Nov. 4, and its beta ends today after a short extension, according to TechRadar. Blizzard has not detailed the undiscovered secrets or said which of them will appear at launch.
