Bloomberg: New Mac mini could launch ahead of Apple's September event, AirPods 5 expected next month

Apple may release a new Mac mini in the coming days, and AirPods 5 could debut at its expected September 9 event, according to Bloomberg.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the Mac mini refresh would be the first in almost two years, following a surge in demand driven partly by users looking to run AI applications and models locally. The Mac mini has been a particular pain point for Apple's supply chain in recent months, with deliveries taking weeks or months. Gurman said Apple has tested versions with both the M5 and M6 generations of its processor line, in contrast with the upcoming iMac revamp, which will reportedly use M6 chips.

Apple recently reiterated that it will begin manufacturing the Mac mini at its Houston facility later this year, as Tim Cook toured the site with Trump administration officials. The same facility houses Apple's Advanced Manufacturing Center and is already producing and shipping the company's AI servers. It remains unclear whether the new Mac mini expected in the coming days is the model that will be built in Houston, though the odds are evidently high.

The same Bloomberg report details other products in Apple's pipeline. AirPods 5 could debut as early as the September event, which is expected to take place on September 9 and will also feature Apple's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, and new Apple Watches. Gurman noted that AirPods 5 will come in both regular and noise-cancellation variants, updating a model last refreshed in 2024. A camera-equipped version of the AirPods isn't expected until next year.

Gurman also reiterated plans for additional Macs, including an iMac with new color options and a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro, both using M6 chips. The most significant Mac introduction in the pipeline is Apple's first touch-screen computer, coming to MacBook Pro models in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with redesigned cases and OLED screens. Looking further ahead, new MacBook Air and MacBook Neo models are expected next year, along with second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro models powered by M7 chips.
