The new season opens with the three Blackthorn Station officers having passed probation, though the section is shorthanded amid a wave of riots and nobody at the station is in a celebratory mood. Gerry Cliff, played by Richard Dormer, returns to deliver a bombshell revelation, while anti-immigration violence leaves Grace Ellis (Siân Brooke), Tommy Foster (Nathan Braniff) and Annie Conlon (Katherine Devlin) beyond disillusioned. In the wake of a targeted attack, the three are forced to confront their methods.

The investigation by Tommy and Shane Bradley (Frank Blake) into Dana Morgan's drug operation and its links to Tina McIntyre hits the skids just as Gerry's murder trial gets under way, ramping up the strain on the station and on Mo McIntyre (Michael Shea) in particular. Sandra (Andi Osho) realises she has been sitting on a secret that could have major repercussions within both the police force and the upper echelons of the criminal underworld.

In Australia, the season airs free on SBS and SBS on Demand from Sunday, October 4, with episodes shown at 9.30pm AEST. In the United States and Canada, Blue Lights is carried by Britbox, but no season 4 transmission date has been announced. Season 3 began airing on November 13 last year, six weeks after its UK premiere. Britbox subscriptions start from $10.99 in the US, and from CA$10.99 a month in Canada after a seven-day free trial.

TechRadar, which reported the streaming details, notes that viewers outside their home market can use a virtual private network to reach the service they normally watch at home, provided they are not breaching any broadcaster terms and conditions. The outlet recommends NordVPN, which it says is available at up to 75 percent off and carries a 30-day risk-free trial period.
