Boox Palma 3 Gains Stylus Support and Aluminum Design at $339.99
Boox has announced the Palma 3, adding Android 16, stylus support, and a redesigned aluminum body to its phone-sized E Ink e-reader. It will cost $339.99, up from $279.99 for the Palma 2, according to The Verge.
The most visible change is hardware. The Palma 3 keeps the same 6.13-inch, 300ppi E Ink Carta screen as its predecessor, which The Verge notes is now several years old, but places it in an anodized aluminum frame with a paperlike fiberglass backplate. The pocketable e-reader is powered by a Qualcomm Q-6690 octa-core processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage that can be expanded with a microSD card. It also has a 3950mAh rechargeable battery, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a fingerprint reader built into the power button.
Software and stylus support are other upgrades. The original Palma ran Android 11 and the Palma 2 ran Android 13, while the Palma 3 ships with Android 16, one generation behind the latest version of the operating system. Like the color-screen Palma 2 Pro, the Palma 3 supports the Boox InkSense Plus active stylus, allowing the e-reader to be used as a digital notepad with a preferred note-taking app.
The stylus is not included. According to The Verge, it is an optional upgrade that adds $46 to the Palma 3's price, pushing the total closer to premium e-notes such as the Remarkable Paper Pure. The updates may justify the significant price bump depending on how buyers plan to use the device, The Verge reported.
Boox has not provided a specific release date beyond saying the Palma 3 is expected to be available soon. The Palma 2 launched in 2024 at $279.99, making the new model $60 more expensive at $339.99 before the optional stylus.
