Breville launches $600 Spiral Luxe Auto Pour Over with built-in grinder

The Spiral Luxe Auto Pour Over is designed to automate a process that typically requires grinding coffee to the right consistency, putting it into a filter and manually pouring water at timed intervals. The machine has a grinder with bespoke 40mm flat burrs, a conical dripper that holds the grounds once brewing starts and an articulating water spout that moves in a spiral pattern like a human barista, Engadget reported. Breville says the heating system can bring water to the right temperature in seconds and maintain that heat throughout the pour to keep brewing temperature consistent.

A built-in display and controls let users set the amount and strength of the pour-over before brewing, and the interface can also save custom recipes, according to Engadget. Its Advanced Edit mode allows adjustments to the grinder, brew ratio, water temperature and even the length of time between pours. A Delayed Auto Start feature lets users program the coffee to be ready at a specific time, such as when they wake up.

Engadget reported that machines simplifying pour-over coffee have existed for years, but Breville goes further by adding a built-in grinder. For coffee aficionados, the Spiral Luxe Auto Pour Over may turn a time-consuming weekend treat into a daily drink, provided they have $600 and enough counter space. For other buyers, cheaper machines that could work just as well are available, even if they lack a spiral pour or a built-in grinder. Engadget noted that Breville has previously made specialized appliances for toast and soda and is now hoping to do something similar for pour-over coffee.
