Brick launches $129 Brick Night to curb bedtime doomscrolling

Brick launches Brick Night, a $129 Bluetooth blocker that automatically blocks apps in rooms to curb bedtime scrolling.

Unlike the original Brick, which requires users to tap their phone against the device, Brick Night uses Bluetooth and a location-based system. It automatically starts blocking when the user enters the bedroom or any other room where the device is placed, according to the report. The company says the automatic background blocking is intended to avoid interrupting or adding steps to a user's usual bedtime routine.

Brick Night runs on two CR2477 batteries and can create a location zone of up to 25 feet by 25 feet. Like the original Brick, it lets users choose specific apps to block rather than making the entire phone inaccessible. The difference is that the Night version is designed to activate without a tap when the user enters the set area.

The device supports multiple users, The Verge reported. Each user can independently configure settings, modes, blocked app selection, time windows and spaces.

At $129, Brick Night costs more than twice as much as the $59 original. It also does not include NFC capabilities, so it cannot provide both location-based and tap-based blocking. That means it cannot replace the original Brick for users who want both forms of control, according to the report.
