BYD's 150,000th New Energy Commercial Vehicle Rolls Off Line in Huai'an
BYD said its 150,000th new energy commercial vehicle, a Q3 battery-electric tractor, rolled off the line at its Huai'an truck smart factory on Oct. 9, 2026, marking an 18-year push from buses to trucks and a sharper focus on heavy-duty electric haulage.
The commercial vehicle maker began in an era when electric commercial vehicles faced doubts over range, cost and reliability. BYD entered through city buses and used technology and operating experience to build market acceptance. It started truck research and development in 2012 and later extended R&D, manufacturing and service capabilities into logistics transport. Its product lineup now includes pure electric and hybrid models across light and heavy vehicles.
In 2025, BYD's light truck T5 reached its 10,000th unit off the line, and the T4 model was launched globally, expanding use into urban distribution and cold-chain logistics. The report said the Q3, as the vehicle for the 150,000th milestone, reflects long-term technology accumulation and industrial coordination, while also pointing to a strategic shift toward trunk-line heavy trucks.
Trunk-line logistics involves long distances and high intensity, requiring efficient charging, strong power and reliability. BYD's Q3 battery-electric tractor uses the company's self-developed battery, motor and electronic control technology, with a commercial vehicle blade battery. Its motor has a peak power of 600 kW and supports dual-gun fast charging, the report said, providing power and rapid replenishment for heavy-load transport. The choice of Q3 for the 150,000th vehicle indicates BYD is accelerating its effort in the electrification of heavy-duty trunk-line tractors.
BYD's commercial vehicle business has expanded beyond buses. Its electric buses have led global public transport electrification, and its new energy buses have been the top annual exporter for three consecutive years, the report said. BYD commercial vehicles have entered more than 70 countries and regions. Trucks are now becoming an important direction for overseas expansion. At this year's IAA show in Hanover, Germany, BYD presented an integrated zero-carbon logistics solution covering vehicles, charging networks, fleet intelligent management and full-lifecycle maintenance, extending from vehicle sales to system solutions aimed at helping customers reduce costs, cut carbon and improve efficiency.
Looking ahead, BYD commercial vehicles plans to strengthen coordination among R&D, supply chain and manufacturing to support global deliveries, improve quality and service across the full chain to ensure efficient vehicle operation, and use its self-developed battery, motor and electronic control technology and vertical integration to advance its truck business. With the 150,000th vehicle as a new starting point, BYD commercial vehicles will continue to target the trunk-line heavy truck market and promote green logistics through technology and its industrial chain, contributing to the low-carbon transition of global transport.
