BYD Unveils Han EV and Third-Generation Tang at Chengdu Auto Show

The Chengdu Auto Show this year saw nearly 20 luxury brands including Bentley, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce absent, while domestic brands filled the space. BYD's Hall 9 was among the busiest, with all five of its brands present. The highlight was the Han EV, a D-class large sedan measuring 5,256 mm long with a 3,130-mm wheelbase. It features a 2.41-meter full-width daytime running light, 21-inch wheels, and a floating wheel center cap. Inside, it offers a 90.8% "usable space ratio," suede roof lining, real wood trim, and rear PDLC dimming glass that can switch from transparent to opaque in one second.

The Han EV's four-wheel-drive version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 270 km/h. All versions come standard with rear-wheel steering, giving it a turning radius of just 4.95 meters. The suspension is the Yunian-A dual-chamber air system with road preview, and the car supports BYD's DiPilot 5.0 driver assistance. The rear-drive version offers a 1,008-km CLTC range, thanks to the second-generation blade battery and a low drag coefficient of 0.197Cd. Three trim levels are available: 249,900 yuan for the 1,008-km rear-drive Premium, 269,900 yuan for the rear-drive Flagship, and 299,900 yuan for the 880-km four-wheel-drive Flagship.

The third-generation Tang, previously known as the "Dynasty 8-series," keeps the Tang name to form a new Tang family with the larger "Da Tang" seven-seater. The new Tang is 5,045 mm long with a 2,950-mm wheelbase, and it drops the third row to provide over one meter of second-row legroom and a 130-degree reclining seat back. Its interior features a completely new "Star Dual Screen" layout with a 35.4-inch star ring display for driving information and a 30-inch panoramic screen for infotainment, a departure from BYD's traditional rotating screen. It will offer rear-drive versions with a 300-kW motor, battery options of 88 kWh and 105 kWh, and CLTC ranges of 730, 830, or 850 km. A four-wheel-drive version was also confirmed. It comes standard with flash charging, but its price and a "killer feature" are yet to be announced.

The third-generation Tang is likely to be priced below the Da Tang, which sells for 239,900 to 309,900 yuan.
