C2PA Verify Android App Reads Image Provenance Data to Flag AI Content

C2PA stands for Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity. The credentials the app reads are meant to help viewers tell whether an image is real or generated, a task that Android Authority said has become very difficult as generative AI models advance. C2PA Verify simplifies the often lengthy provenance log by showing the signer, the image’s creator, a timeline of the image’s life, and raw data if users want it.

The report noted one limitation: C2PA credentials can be erased from an image. If that data is scrubbed, C2PA Verify cannot determine whether an image is AI-generated or real. Even so, Android Authority described the app as a useful tool to have on a device.

Memoria is an Android gallery app that uses offline AI for natural language search. Android Authority reported that the app uses Apple’s MobileCLIP-S0 model to process queries and search images, and that no internet connection is required. The installation size is more than 250MB. Users can start a text-based search or a search using a related image. Android Authority said Memoria is particularly useful for combing through wallpapers. It is open source and free to use.
