Caira adds generative video editing to its AI mirrorless camera, but only for footage you've shot

Camera Intelligence brings generative video editing to Caira mirrorless, using Gemini and Runway, limited to footage shot on the camera.

The feature works through the Caira app with footage captured on the existing Caira device; it cannot generate AI video from scratch. A private beta opens today for current Caira customers, and the capability will become part of the paid Caira Studio software package in Autumn 2026. Pricing has not been announced.

“Last year we were the first mirrorless camera to edit photographs with generative AI, and we learned a great deal from the conversation that followed,” said Vishal Kumar, CEO and co-founder of Camera Intelligence, in a statement. “This year, after shipping Caira, a large majority of our surveyed backers said generative editing for video would be useful to them—a clear impetus to bring these ideas to life.”

Powered by Google's Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash and Runway's Aleph 2.0, the new system allows Caira users to apply visual and camera-motion effects to footage they have already shot, using natural-language instructions guided by templates.

TechRadar notes that it first reviewed the Caira last year. The camera combines a Micro Four Thirds sensor and MagSafe iPhone attachment with Qualcomm and Google silicon. Its central feature is Google's on-device “Nano Banana” generative editor, which offers rapid edits and voice control without requiring a computer.

The video editing templates include Relight, Reframe, Camera Motion and Set Extension, with conversational refinement. Output is in 720p or 1080p, taking one to three minutes to generate depending on resolution.

Because there is no text-to-video functionality, every edit must begin with footage captured on Caira. Generated videos are saved as separate files and watermarked with Google's SynthID to mark them as AI-generated.

The Generative Video Editing feature is part of the Caira Studio app, launching in Autumn 2026 alongside the existing Image Editing feature and one more unannounced feature. Current Caira customers can register interest for the private beta starting today.

The design keeps Caira rooted in photography, according to TechRadar, because however much the AI adds afterward, the creative process still begins with someone choosing what to shoot.
