Calendly enters AI meeting note-taking with new product and Callie assistant

The note-taker, like rivals, joins meetings to capture audio and video, generate transcripts, and automatically create summaries, action items, and draft follow-up emails, the report said. Calendly said it is also testing a feature similar to Granola that uses system audio to transcribe meetings.

Calendly also plans to release an AI assistant named Callie that taps into its existing meeting and scheduling platform to set up meetings, check attendees' availability and provide context from previous meetings. TechCrunch noted that meeting-note startup Read AI launched a similar email-based assistant earlier in the year.

Calendly CEO Tope Awotona said the company wanted to automate workflows for its core users, particularly those in outward-facing roles such as sales and marketing, whose workdays are typically filled with meetings. The note-taking space is already crowded, with dedicated apps like Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter and Fathom, as well as productivity companies like Notion, ClickUp and Wispr adding similar features.

Awotona argued that the real opportunity lies in what happens after a meeting is transcribed. "There's a litany of notetakers, and all of them do a great job of recording and transcribing notes. But a lot of work happens after the meetings. And we think that really that's where the opportunity for our note-takers to be efficient," he said.

Regarding privacy, Awotona said Calendly's note-taker will inform users that their meeting is being recorded. The recording assistant sends a chat message to alert participants and can be asked to leave by any user. Through its integration with Calendly's scheduling system, the tool can also notify people before the meeting starts that the call will be recorded. This comes as some note-taking companies, including Otter and Granola, face allegations of privacy violations, TechCrunch noted.
