Canon, HP and Insta360 Launch New Hardware; OpenAI to Retire GPT-5.5

Canon announced the EOS R8 Mark II full-frame camera at 9,999 yuan. The report said the body has a slip-resistant finish, weighs about 546 grams, and adds a multi-function control button, a shooting indicator and a multi-function hot shoe for compatible microphones and flashes. The camera uses the same approximately 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor as the EOS R6 Mark II and a DIGIC X processor. It adds five-axis in-body image stabilization, which works with IS-equipped RF lenses for coordinated stabilization up to 7.5 stops at the center. For video, it adds an Enhanced + image stabilization mode that combines coordinated and digital movie IS. Burst shooting reaches about 40 frames per second with the electronic shutter and about 6 fps with the electronic first-curtain shutter. A pre-burst function records images from 0.5 seconds before the shutter is pressed. The second-generation Dual Pixel autofocus uses deep learning to improve recognition accuracy, speed and resistance to interference, with minimum focus brightness of EV -7.5. The camera has 16 color filters, including 14 shared with the EOS R6 Mark III and two new film-tone filters, negative and positive, with 11 levels of intensity from 0 to 100 percent. These can be used for JPEG photos or video without post-processing. The handheld night mode adds blue, black-orange, pink and green color styles. A Creative Auto function automatically adjusts settings for beginners in difficult light. Video features include uncropped 6K oversampled 4K 60p and Full HD 180p recording, slow- and fast-motion modes, and sound recording during high-frame-rate video. The camera supports CINEMA EOS color presets such as Custom Picture with Canon Log 3, BT.709, PQ and HLG, external Look File loading, a 2.35:1 movie view, full-frame and APS-C VR lenses, and a VR Clear mode for VR headset viewing.

HP announced the ZBook Ultra G3a 16 mobile workstation. It is based on AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 Gorgon Halo processors and supports 192GB of unified memory, with up to 160GB allocable as VRAM, allowing local operation of large language models with up to 300 billion parameters. The machine starts at 4.2 pounds and is 17.9mm thick, supports 100W performance release, offers optional 5G cellular connectivity, and has a keyboard and other parts designed for easier replacement. It ships with the Perplexity Computer local agent and supports design and visualization workflows including Autodesk Revit 2027, Autodesk 3ds Max and Chaos Enscape. HP set the device at $7,449 in its local AI value calculator; it will go on sale in October 2026.

Insta360 released the Mic Pro Tencent Meeting Edition AI recording lavalier microphone at 698 yuan. The product is positioned as an AI recorder for the agent era and integrates Tencent Meeting recording transcription and meeting-minutes functions. It records with a press, automatically syncs to the Tencent Meeting app, and uses AI to transcribe audio, distinguish speakers and generate professional minutes. It weighs 19 grams, supports clip and magnetic attachment, and has a customizable e-ink display for identity information, company logos, creative images or personal information. The microphone has a three-mic array with stable pickup up to 5 meters, can record up to 9.5 hours on a single charge, supports fast charging for 1.5 hours of extra recording in 5 minutes, and includes 32GB of storage for more than 1,000 hours of audio with local file export.

OpenAI said on September 15 that GPT-5.5 will be removed from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex on October 14 across all subscription plans. It advised Codex users of GPT-5.5 to switch to GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra as soon as possible. OpenAI launched GPT-5.5 on April 24 this year and said it consumes fewer tokens than GPT-5.4 when completing the same tasks.
