ChatGPT Adds Virtual Clothing Try-On, Borrowing a Google Shopping Staple

ChatGPT now offers virtual clothing try-on from a selfie or full-body photo, and adds Favorites and folders for saved products.

The feature is powered by ChatGPT Images 2.5. Users can also upload a link to a piece of clothing or a photo of an outfit, ask ChatGPT to find similar products, and then try those recommendations on themselves virtually.

OpenAI is separately adding Favorites and folders so users can organize products they save inside ChatGPT, the outlet reported. Reference photos can be reused for later try-ons or deleted from the settings menu.

ChatGPT picked up basic shopping features in April of last year. The tool's shopping recommendations have not always been reliable, and recent reports described it surfacing fake stores and fraudulent storefronts.

OpenAI is not backing away from the category. It is continuing to build out ChatGPT's shopping capabilities, and the new try-on tool takes a page directly from Google Shopping's specialties. The addition arrives soon after the company decided to pivot away from its Instant Checkout feature.
