ChatGPT and Perplexity Enter Top Five Most-Scraped Websites for First Time, Decodo Finds
Decodo research shows ChatGPT and Perplexity among the most-scraped websites, with TikTok topping the list. The findings point to a shift in how businesses monitor consumer trends as AI and social platforms displace traditional retail sites.
Decodo found that seven of the top 10 sites were new entrants. Only TikTok, Google, and Amazon returned as repeat sites. Several sites that were in the top 10 in 2025 dropped out, including Walmart, eBay, and Airbnb. Decodo said the changes indicate a broader shift in how and where consumers are shopping, with AI and social media playing larger roles.
Businesses are tracking AI platforms as consumers move toward AI-powered buying patterns, according to the research. Decodo said scraping of ChatGPT could involve checking how the AI tool ranks a company’s products against competitors, monitoring how it describes the company, measuring brand mention frequency, and recording ChatGPT citations. Social media is also a major area for monitoring consumer trends, the company said.
“Two years ago, businesses scraped the web to see what people were searching for,” Decodo CEO Vaidotas Juknys said. “Now they scrape AI platforms to see what people are being told. The use case for data collection is changing.”
Looking ahead, Decodo anticipates that Gemini and Copilot could end up in next year’s top 10. The company also predicts that AI agents could replace humans in starting scrapes. “Next year the agents might be doing the deciding instead of just reading the answers,” Juknys added.
