Circleback introduces free tier for meeting note-taker as competition intensifies

Circleback launches a free meeting-note tier, cutting paid plans to $14/month amid competition.

The free tier includes meeting recording, mobile and Apple Watch apps, AI-powered transcript queries, and integrations with Linear and Slack. For full integrations, unlimited meeting history, and full API and MCP access, paid plans start at $14 per month billed annually. Previously, Circleback had no free tier and its cheapest plan was $20.83 per month.

The announcement comes as the meeting note-taker market becomes increasingly crowded. TechCrunch notes that dictation app Wispr launched its own note-taker and scheduling app in recent weeks, Calendly added a similar tool, and dedicated competitors such as Granola, Read AI, and Fireflies have raised millions of dollars.

Circleback was founded in 2023 by Ali Haghani and Kevin Jacyna and raised $2.5 million in 2024. The company says it has been profitable since then and has been generating run-rate revenue of more than $1 million per employee with a team of eight people, roughly $8 million in annual run-rate revenue.

Co-founder Ali Haghani said the company saw a large drop-off in users during its previously limited trial period, which prompted the free plan. “If we just open the gates and allow more people to use the product, that’s gonna bring Circleback in front of more people. Then we’re very good at making the product good and monetizing those users,” he said.

Haghani said Circleback does not spend on Google or Meta ads and will treat the free tier as marketing. He added that the company is not looking to raise funds despite interest, because it sees no bottlenecks in its growth. “We are consistently competing and winning customers against much bigger companies, both in terms of number of people and funding raised. And I feel like there is now more of an appetite to win,” he said. He also said the startup would be open to fundraising if money could solve a problem.
