Claude expands Gmail and Google Drive integration with email sending and file management

Claude now sends emails and manages files in Gmail/Drive, but users are split over auto-send risks.

The new capabilities allow Claude to draft and send emails, forward messages, and manage files in Google Drive, including searching, retrieving, sharing, moving, or deleting files. Users can also choose not to have Claude send an email automatically if they want to review it first, which is particularly useful for work emails where accuracy is critical. A full list of upgraded capabilities is available on Claude's support page.

However, the update has sparked debate among Google Workspace users. TechRadar reported that the news prompted a flood of replies on X, with some users worried about the implications of an AI sending emails they haven't seen. One user wrote, "sending the email was never the hard part, the hard part is the apology email it sends next." Another said, "I would rather use my own head than to let Claude reply especially responding to my clients," adding that they don't want Claude "hallucinating me into exposing my cost or another client's IP."

Anthropic later clarified that asking for approval is the default setting, and on Team and Enterprise plans, admins can decide whether members can allow these actions to run without asking each time. The company also emphasized that Claude mirrors existing permissions and cannot access information the user does not already have access to in Google Workspace. Anthropic said it would not train its models on Gmail, Drive, or Calendar connector data.

In addition, Anthropic announced that Claude Cowork is now available on mobile and web across all paid plans, allowing users to track tasks on smartphones rather than relying solely on the desktop application. The company also extended the 50% increased weekly Claude Code limits through August 31, which had previously been set to expire on August 19 for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users.
