Clicks Communicator Gets 12GB RAM, Bigger Battery, Android 17 Before December Launch

Clicks has finalized its Communicator with 12GB RAM, a 4,350mAh battery and Android 17. The keyboard-first phone keeps a $499 launch price through Sept. 30 and ships in December.

The Communicator was first shown at CES earlier this year as a full-fledged Android phone built from the ground up with a keyboard-first design. When it was first displayed in January, Clicks said the device would have 8GB of RAM, a 4,000mAh battery and Android 16, with two years of major OS updates. The final model will instead ship with 12GB of RAM, a 4,350mAh battery and Android 17 out of the box. The battery is rated for more than 800 charge cycles, according to the company.

On software support, Clicks has promised three major Android OS updates and five years of security updates. Android Authority reported that this is an improvement over the earlier plan but still falls short of what most other major Android brands offer in 2026. Samsung's flagship phones get seven years of OS updates, while its mid-range phones, which are more comparable in price to the Communicator, get six. Of all the Communicator's specifications, the shorter OS support window could end up hurting it the most, according to the report.

The Communicator is not intended to be a mobile gaming powerhouse or a device for binge-watching Netflix, the report said. Instead, it is aimed at communication and productivity, and the additional 4GB of RAM should give it more breathing room when multitasking between productivity and communication apps. For reference, the 4,350mAh battery is 50mAh larger than the Galaxy S26's battery.

Starting Sept. 18, reservation holders can configure their color, keyboard layout, charging covers and accessories. The final day to pre-order the Communicator at the $499 launch price is Wednesday, Sept. 30. After that, the price rises to $649. Clicks said the Communicator will begin shipping in December. Alongside the upgraded specs, the company announced new accessories and plans; details are in its news release.
