Color ereader buyers weigh Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook and BOOX ahead of Prime Day

TechRadar reported that Amazon's Oct. 6-7 Prime Day may bring discounts on color ereaders, including Kindle Colorsoft and Scribe Colorsoft, while Kobo, PocketBook and BOOX offer alternatives.

Amazon's standard color ereader, the Kindle Colorsoft, is described as a color version of the Paperwhite. All Colorsoft models have a 7-inch screen, about 12 weeks of battery life and IPX8 waterproofing, and none support writing. Amazon offers regular 16GB and Signature 32GB versions in both 2024 and all-new 2026 editions. According to TechRadar, it is unclear how long the 2024 versions will remain available. The 2026 versions are thinner and lighter, and the power button has moved from the bottom to the side. Some options come with or without ads.

Discount prospects differ by market. In the UK, Amazon discounted most of the previous Colorsoft range before the new models appeared, with deals up to 44% off still available; TechRadar does not expect those prices to fall further during Prime Day. In the US, there were no meaningful deals on the now-old Colorsoft models as of Oct. 2, though TechRadar said it is hopeful they will be discounted during the official event. For the 2026 models, TechRadar is unsure whether a discount will appear so soon after launch, but noted that Amazon almost always cuts Kindle prices during Prime Day.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft combines color reading with writing support. It has an 11-inch screen, the largest among the models covered, and comes in 32GB and 64GB versions. It launched in December 2025 and has not been updated for 2026. TechRadar said a deal is almost certain because the device was included in the June Prime Day event and is not brand new. In the UK, both versions are already on sale with 30% off, at £399 for 32GB and £439.99 for 64GB; the 64GB model fell only to £492.99 in June. US deals are not live yet, but TechRadar expects them, possibly not until Prime Day itself; in June, the 64GB version dropped to $519.99 from $679.99. Even with discounts, TechRadar said the device remains pricey, and buyers may weigh it against the BOOX Go Color 7 Gen II, another color ereader with writing support that operates like a full e-ink tablet.

Kobo is described as the main Kindle alternative. The Kobo Clara Colour is an ereader-only model with a 6-inch screen, while the Libra Colour supports writing with a separately sold stylus and has a 7-inch screen. TechRadar said the Kobo Libra Colour holds the top spot in its best ereader ranking. On discount prospects, the Libra Colour was cut to $229.99 from $259.99 in the US during the most recent Prime Day but stayed at full price in the UK at £209.99; the Clara Colour received no discount in either market. At the time of writing, both were full price on Amazon.

PocketBook's Verse Pro Color has a 6-inch screen and 16GB of storage. Its battery life is shorter than the other models covered, though it still provides about a month of reading per charge, and it has no writing features. TechRadar said a deal is possible but not likely, because PocketBook is a smaller player and not necessarily a model Amazon would focus on for discounts; no US deal appeared during the June Prime Day.

The guide also includes the BOOX Go Color 7 Gen II, which TechRadar mentioned as a color ereader with writing support and full e-ink tablet-like operation. TechRadar did not provide a battery runtime for that model.
