Community Fibre Installs UK’s Fastest 8.5Gbps Home Broadband as Lebara Offers £1.89 5G SIM Deal
Community Fibre has installed the UK’s fastest home broadband at 8.5Gbps, while Lebara offers new customers 10GB of 5G data and unlimited UK calls for £1.89 a month.
The plan costs £300 per month on a 24-month contract. It is a 70% speed increase over Community Fibre’s previous 5Gbps full fibre offer, which costs £56.70 per month. The company also sells a 2.5Gbps product at £38.70 per month. Community Fibre’s full fibre network reaches about 1.4 million homes in and around London, with more than 450,000 customers, according to TechRadar.
Peter Rampling, Chief Commercial Officer at Community Fibre, said the installation “demonstrates what’s possible when world-class infrastructure is paired with relentless innovation and long-term investment.” TechRadar noted that full fibre runs directly into the home, unlike fibre-to-the-cabinet, where copper wire limits speeds to a theoretical maximum of 80Mbps. The 8.5Gbps service is available in serviced areas in London.
In a separate TechRadar report, Lebara has launched a 10GB Exclusive Monthly Plan for new customers at £1.89 a month for the first four months, down from £5.99. The plan includes 10GB of 4G and 5G data, unlimited UK calls and texts, and 100 international minutes to more than 50 countries.
The Lebara plan runs on Vodafone’s network and uses a 30-day rolling contract with no long-term commitment or credit check. Lebara says it will not increase the price of its SIM-only plans during 2026. The data allowance can be used for tethering and mobile hotspots, and EU and India roaming is included at no additional cost, subject to roaming terms. After four months, the price returns to £5.99 a month. TechRadar said the introductory period costs £7.56 instead of £23.96, saving £16.40.
TechRadar recommended the Lebara plan for users who typically use 10GB or less of mobile data each month and want a low-cost SIM without a long contract. It said heavy streamers or those who frequently use their phone as a hotspot may need a larger data allowance. For the broadband plan, TechRadar said the 8.5Gbps line is more about bragging rights for now, as most consumers will find the 5Gbps plan sufficient.
