Cricut launches StickerPix Print and Print + Cut sticker machines

The StickerPix Print measures 7.8 by 5 by 3.5 inches and can print on 4-by-6-inch photo paper or pre-cut sticker sheets from Cricut. The larger StickerPix Print + Cut measures 8 by 11.3 by 4.1 inches and works with 4-by-7-inch sticker sheets and 4-by-6-inch photo paper. Because it can cut, the Print + Cut is not limited to the predetermined shapes of Cricut’s pre-cut sticker sheets.

Both machines use dye-sublimation to print photos and stickers, applying heat to transfer dye directly onto the material. They then add a laminate layer that makes the prints water-, scratch- and fade-resistant, according to Engadget. Other Cricut machines require an inkjet printer and special laminate sheets to achieve similar results, so the StickerPix devices may save space for users who mainly want to print photos and stickers.

Unlike Cricut’s other machines, both StickerPix models can only make kiss-cut stickers that remain attached to a single sheet. They cannot make die-cut stickers that are separated from their backing paper as they are cut. Both machines require the Cricut Design Space software on a phone or computer, and users will likely be pushed to pay for Cricut Access, a subscription that provides more templates and discounts, Engadget reported.

The StickerPix Print and Print + Cut come bundled with sticker sheets, photo paper and an ink cartridge. Cricut, which makes cutting, embossing and heat pressing machines for home crafters, is expanding further into stickers with the new lineup.
