Cyberpunk 2077-themed Commodore 64 unveiled as Commodore 77

Engadget reports Commodore and CD Projekt Red have created the Cyberpunk 2077-themed Commodore 77, a C64 Ultimate variant now available for pre-order at $377.

The Commodore 77 is styled as a relic from Night City, the setting of Cyberpunk 2077. Its yellow breadbox case is scuffed and marked with graffiti, with a metal plate on the function row and half-removed stickers. The boot screen has been redesigned to suit the dystopian aesthetic. Engadget notes that without the etched logo on the front, it could easily be imagined as an object that fell out of the game.

The package includes a demo cartridge designed to resemble an Arasaka device. The demo contains an "experience" that "expands the lore of the Cyberpunk universe," created by Polish C64 group Arise with a soundtrack by chiptune artist LukHash. Buyers also get a custom neon power light, stickers, pins, collectible packaging, and a themed spiral-bound user guide.

Commodore was resurrected by YouTuber Christian "Perifractic" Simpson, with the 64 Ultimate as its first product. The 64 Ultimate is an FPGA recreation of the original C64 featuring a real keyboard, HDMI, USB, WiFi, and backward compatibility with original C64 accessories. The new models are made from the original injection mold tooling and are available in either the original beige "breadbin" shape or the more Amiga-esque C64C. Engadget says the Commodore 77, by looks alone, is a better-looking option than TheC64Mini for those seeking nostalgia.
