Dali announces colorful Basik Sub subwoofer to add low-end punch to compact speakers
Dali announces its colorful Basik Sub subwoofer, priced at $800/£429/€500, to add low-end punch to budget Rubik and Sonik 1 speakers.
TechRadar says the Basik Sub turns a stereo setup into a 2.1 system and addresses the low-frequency limitations of compact bookshelf speakers. The subwoofer uses Dali’s own 8-inch long-throw woofer with an oversized ferrite magnet and a high-flux motor system, plus a long, vented voice coil intended to maintain cooling and minimize compression at higher levels.
The down-firing design is meant to deliver more even bass distribution and offer more flexibility in positioning. Power comes from a 170W RMS / 220W peak Class D amplifier with a built-in dual-stage limiter. Gain, crossover and phase controls are adjustable to make the Basik compatible with a wide range of speaker setups.
The enclosure is made of MDF and has four decoupled feet to reduce vibration. It comes in Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue. Dali positions the Basik Sub not only for stereo systems but also for budget home theater use, since the Sonik range can serve as surround speakers. TechRadar notes that both the Dali Kupid and Dali Sonik 1 earned five-star reviews, and the Basik Sub is intended to make those speakers sound bigger and better.
