David Pogue Tests iOS 27's New Siri AI With 125 Requests, Nearly All Succeed

David Pogue tested iOS 27's new Siri AI with 125 requests; almost all succeeded, though some third-party actions may improve as apps update.

Siri has been baked into the iPhone for nearly 15 years, 9to5Mac reported. During that time, many Apple users have grown accustomed to depending on Siri only for certain supported tasks, such as creating reminders, starting timers, playing Apple Music, and sending messages while driving. Outside those few tasks, Siri's shortcomings trained users not to rely on it. The new Siri AI in iOS 27 is a major upgrade, but 9to5Mac said it may take time for users to adjust to treating it as a go-to assistant.

Pogue's post, titled "125 Tests of the New AI Siri," lists more than 100 prompts he tried and details how the assistant performed. In one test, he asked, "What are people waiting on me for?" Siri generated a list from Mail, Messages, and Reminders. Pogue wrote that the feature found things he had forgotten he was supposed to do, even though he had intended his tests only for the column. In another test, while running late to a party, he asked, "What's the apartment number!?" Siri answered, "The apartment number for the Bynum party tonight is 10-F." Pogue noted that he had never said what party or what day.

A third example involved Pogue asking Siri to "Delete all my alarms." Siri responded, "Do you want to delete 38 alarms in Clock?" and waited for confirmation. 9to5Mac said these examples stood out among the tests.

According to 9to5Mac, Siri succeeded on almost all 125 tests. Among the few failures, one involved sending a Venmo payment. 9to5Mac said Siri AI will likely perform better on such tasks after third parties update their apps for iOS 27 and Siri AI compatibility. Pogue's full list of 125 Siri AI examples is available on his Substack.

9to5Mac also asked readers how Siri has been running for them in iOS 27. It pointed readers to a separate article about the requirements to get Siri AI in iOS 27.
