Delta and WeChat update for iPhone Duo as Apple’s first foldable goes on sale

Apple’s first foldable iPhone Duo is on sale, with Delta adding a dual-screen Nintendo DS mode and WeChat adding split-screen viewing while stopping short of full adaptation.

Android Authority reported that Delta 2.0 places touch controls on the iPhone Duo’s bottom display and the main game display on top, mimicking a Nintendo DS. The update also adds native Sega Genesis support with cheat codes, save states and custom controller skins, plus RetroAchievements support and a Liquid Glass design. Delta said on Bluesky that the release is available on the App Store worldwide and on AltStore PAL in the European Union.

ifanr tested WeChat 8.0.80 on the iPhone Duo and concluded that the app is adapted but not fully adapted. The new version can show a left-hand list and right-hand detail pane on the inner display, a layout closer to iPad WeChat and a clear improvement over the earlier version, which displayed in a centered portrait ratio with black bars on both sides when the inner screen was open in landscape. ifanr said messages, Moments and audio and video calls work smoothly, and the outer screen works much like a regular phone, including convenient swipe-back gestures.

Several interface problems remain. ifanr reported that the right-side navigation control area still has black bars and cannot use the full display, especially on the outer screen. The bottom control bar has not moved to the right side as Apple’s design guidelines specify. On the inner screen in landscape, left-edge swipe-back does not work and users must tap the back button, which sits in the center of the large display because of the split layout; swipe-back works in portrait on the inner screen. When reading an article in landscape and trying to return to the subscription list, the edge swipe did not work, and the back button was hard to reach, according to the review.

The review said iPhone Duo apps currently fall into three broad states based on the SDK used. Apps compiled with iOS 27.1 or later can use the inner screen fully, move navigation and toolbars to the right side, resize windows dynamically and avoid the crease area through ReserveRegion. Apps compiled with iOS 27.0 can open a wide window but still have incomplete system-level details, such as a non-immersive status bar and navigation and bottom bars that take up vertical space. Apps compiled with iOS 26 or earlier remain fixed at a 16:9 ratio. ifanr judged WeChat 8.0.80 to be in the second, transitional state.

WeChat 8.0.80 does not support tablet mode on the iPhone Duo. The login screen offers no option to log in as a tablet, and the app still treats the device as a regular iPhone, according to the review. ifanr said the version solves the main large-screen and split-view problems and is adequate for daily high-frequency use, and speculated that a fuller adaptation using the latest SDK, with crease avoidance and a right-side navigation bar, is in development. It also speculated that tablet-mode login could arrive in a later fully adapted version.

The updates arrived on the iPhone Duo’s first sale day. Android Authority reported that early reviews of the iPhone Duo complained about app support, and that more developers are now updating their apps for Apple’s new form factor. ifanr said WeChat and other major vendors are pushing adaptation work as the device launches, and compared the pace with the longer ecosystem-building period for Android foldables.
