Didi Autonomous Driving's New-Gen Robotaxi R2 Begins Passenger Testing in Beijing, Guangzhou
Didi Autonomous Driving's new-generation Robotaxi R2 has begun unmanned passenger testing in Beijing and Guangzhou, featuring L4 tech and an upgraded cabin experience.
The R2 is a Robotaxi-exclusive model jointly developed by Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion, designed with global adaptation capabilities. It is equipped with Didi's L4 full-stack hardware and software solution, incorporating 33 sensors and a three-domain integrated computing platform to improve perception accuracy and handling of complex scenarios. The vehicle platform meets both Chinese and European five-star safety standards and includes multiple safety redundancy systems.
The cabin features a maximized rear-seat space with seats supporting large-angle adjustment. A 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted screen provides access to various entertainment functions, while an AI voice interaction system supports voice-based verification of the ride tail number, trip initiation, air conditioning control, window opening, and ambient lighting adjustment. Before boarding, the vehicle automatically opens windows for ventilation. Additional features such as exterior screen interaction, pre-set cabin temperature and ambient lighting, and horn- or voice-based vehicle locating are scheduled to be rolled out gradually.
Safety and reliability are priorities in the experience upgrade. The R2 underwent strict vehicle-level validation and, after delivery in January, conducted road testing in Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, and other locations, maintaining stable and safe operation. With the new vehicle now entering unmanned passenger testing, Didi Autonomous Driving will continue to advance Robotaxi technology iteration and service optimization to offer safe, intelligent, and convenient autonomous mobility to more users.
