Didi Autonomous Driving's New Robotaxi R2 Starts Paid Testing in Beijing and Guangzhou

Didi's next-gen Robotaxi R2 begins unmanned passenger testing in Beijing and Guangzhou, featuring upgraded autonomous tech and smart cabin.

The R2, co-developed with GAC Aion, is a purpose-built robotaxi with global adaptability. It integrates Didi's L4 full-stack software and hardware solution, featuring 33 sensors and a three-domain fusion computing platform to enhance perception accuracy and handling of complex scenarios. The vehicle platform meets both C-NCAP and Euro NCAP five-star standards and is equipped with multiple safety redundancy systems.

The new model maximizes rear-seat space, with seats supporting large-angle adjustment. A 17.3-inch ceiling screen provides access to diverse entertainment functions, while an AI voice interaction system allows passengers to verify their phone number, start trips, adjust climate control, open windows, and control ambient lighting. The vehicle automatically ventilates before pickup, and features such as exterior screen interaction, pre-set temperature and ambient light, as well as horn and voice vehicle-finding, will be rolled out gradually.

Safety and reliability remain the priority. The R2 underwent rigorous vehicle-grade testing and has been conducting road tests in Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shenzhen since delivery in January, maintaining stable and safe operation. With the new vehicle entering unmanned passenger testing, Didi Autonomous Driving will continue advancing robotaxi technology and service optimization.
