Dreame's Ecceluxe Go Travel Espresso Maker Heats Its Own Water, Early Test Finds
Dreame's Ecceluxe Go portable espresso machine heats water with an internal battery and compact elements, removing the need for a kettle. TechRadar's early test found the shots milder but tasty; the device is due in the US, Portugal and Spain by year-end.
Dreame is best known for robot vacuums and hair stylers, and TechRadar said its coffee machines perform comparably to the rest of its appliance lineup. The Ecceluxe Go is designed for travel and is roughly the size of a small thermos, supplied in a carry case with a set of adapters.
The problem the device addresses is the hot water supply. TechRadar noted that travel coffee makers such as the AeroPress and the hand-pumped Wacaco Nanopresso all require hot water to be on hand, which is not always practical away from a kitchen. Because a single shot of espresso needs only a small amount of water, a lithium-ion battery and compact heating elements are enough to bring it to brewing temperature.
The adapters fit Nespresso Classic, Dolce Gusto and ESE pods as well as freshly ground coffee. Each adapter twists onto the bottom of the brewer, and a flexible cap lifts off the top to expose a small water reservoir marked with fill lines. Small legs fold out from the base of the adapter so the assembly can stand on the clear cup included in the box.
A single touch-sensitive LED display is the only control. Holding a finger against it for three seconds powers the machine on, after which the user selects one of two programs: P1 for cold or ambient-temperature water and P2 for water that has already been heated. Brewing begins three seconds after the selection.
A temperature sensor sits in the miniature tank, and the screen shows the reading in Celsius as it rises. TechRadar reported that heating takes a couple of minutes given the size of the heating element, after which the water is forced through the coffee preparation.
In early testing, TechRadar described the flavour as milder than usual but still tasty and well suited to drinking as a plain shot. A full review covering all four coffee types is due to be published in a couple of weeks.
Dreame has no release schedule for the Ecceluxe Go in the UK, according to TechRadar. The company has not announced pricing for the machine in the markets where it is due to launch.
Editor's Summary
Dreame's Ecceluxe Go adds an internal battery and heating element to the portable espresso format, letting it brew from cold water without a stove or kettle. TechRadar's early testing found the coffee milder than a conventional shot but drinkable, with a full review still to come. The machine is set to launch in the US, Portugal and Spain by the end of the year, with no UK date announced.
