Dyson Unveils AI Toothbrush With Camera and Water Flosser at 3,899 Yuan
Dyson launched CameraJet, an AI toothbrush with camera and water flosser, for 3,899 yuan; pre-sales begin Sept. 7.
The device, officially named CameraJet (Dyson Visual Imaging Toothbrush), features a 1mm micro camera with 100,000 pixels and a strobe fill light just below the brush head. Available in Dawn Pink and Ocean Blue, the camera analyzes 28 frames of oral images each second, feeding a machine-learning algorithm called Gap Optical Targeting that identifies the interdental gaps most prone to plaque buildup. Once a gap is found, a nozzle sprays up to 0.15ml of mouthwash, with the entire process taking as little as 100 milliseconds. Dyson says the system was trained on 470,000 tooth images and runs on about 16 million lines of code.
Dyson did not adopt the thin, needle-like water jet typical of conventional water flossers. Instead, it created a cone-shaped liquid stream that covers a larger area, which the company says is more effective at removing sticky plaque in one pass and gentler on gums and enamel. To test nozzle designs without waiting for human plaque to grow, Dyson collaborated with the National University of Singapore to develop a sticky substitute material that closely mimics real dental plaque.
The spindle-shaped joint between the brush head and handle houses a 12.5ml water tank. Because a toothbrush is held in various angles, Dyson developed an "anti-gravity capsule tank" with a diaphragm pump and pressure chamber that expands as liquid decreases, maintaining consistent water pressure in any orientation. The charging base doubles as a refilling station with a 200ml reservoir; placing the brush back refills the built-in tank in three seconds. The brush itself weighs 230g, supports IPX7 waterproofing, and has a replaceable lithium battery and brush head. The package includes two brush heads, a charging/refilling base, a magnetic charging cable and a travel case. Each brush head carries an RFID chip that records usage and reminds users to replace it every three months.
For cleaning, CameraJet uses a two-layer bristle design: a firmer inner ring for tooth surfaces and a softer outer ring for gums. Its sonic motor vibrates at 58,000 times per minute and continuously adjusts the brush head angle. Users can choose among gentle, variable and deep-clean intensities and switch among "brush and floss," "brush only" and "floss only" modes. Via Wi-Fi, the toothbrush connects to the MyDyson WeChat mini-program, allowing users to live-stream the inside of their mouth and review statistics on brushing coverage, missed areas and long-term cleaning trends.
James Dyson explained the origin of the product: "Using dental floss is an awkward and time-consuming chore. Although we know we should do it, very few of us do." He said Dyson engineers and scientists spent more than a decade studying oral care and plaque accumulation, and found that people tend to ignore the spaces between teeth. The solution, as ifanr notes, is an engineering approach that assumes the habit remains unchanged and works around it.
The launch extends Dyson's product range, which already includes vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, curling irons, headphones and floor washers. According to ifanr, these products share a common foundation in Dyson's expertise in motors, fluid dynamics and sensors, moving from air to liquid and from floors to personal care. The report also draws a parallel with Laifen, a brand that started with hair dryers and moved into toothbrushes and razors, noting that both companies build their products around small, precisely controlled motors.
