Dyson unveils Plum and Copper colorway for hair stylers ahead of Christmas 2026
Dyson has introduced a special-edition Plum and Copper finish for four hair stylers, set for Christmas 2026 and inspired by the rare gemstone Kyawthuite.
The colorway uses rich red, peach and ginger tones that shift in the light, according to TechRadar. TechRadar described Copper and Plum as a more classic look with soft, warm metallics. Alice Chen, a Dyson CMF designer, said: “Dyson’s Plum and Copper colorway is inspired by Kyawthuite, known for its mesmerizing color and near-mythical rarity. Soft red hues echo the mineral’s core, deep burgundy traces reflect its natural grooves, and a luminous copper captures its radiant depth.” Chen added: “This special edition range is a statement piece that truly celebrates Dyson’s luxury craftsmanship.”
Earlier this month, TechRadar’s Ruth Hamilton joined a conversation with Dyson’s head of engineering, Jake Dyson, after the launch of the new Dyson CameraJet toothbrush, during which he discussed the company’s approach to colors. “This blue [on the toothbrush] is inspired by Yves Klein, who’s an artist that my father really likes,” Jake Dyson said. “He wasn’t allowed to use the same blue, but we created our own. And the first vacuum cleaners have purple in them, because of the lavender from the south of France, which is something he loved as well.”
Dyson has a team dedicated to colors, materials and finishes, or CMF, which specializes in the materials and look of its products. The team has drawn on ideas from failed products such as the Dyson electric car for its health and beauty devices, as well as from successful projects. When it is not working on new devices such as the CameraJet, the team applies its knowhow to updating existing products.
In February, Dyson released a limited-edition summer solstice-themed Ceramic Apricot and Topaz colorway, inspired by what the company called “the astronomical, visual and psychological resonance of the longest, brightest day of the year.” TechRadar said the description might have slightly oversold the look, but it still liked the orange and pink shades.
The Plum and Copper stylers will not have the “near-mythical rarity” of Kyawthuite, TechRadar reported, but as a special edition the colorway will not be around forever. That means shoppers may want to make an early start on Christmas shopping.
