Engadget: Google One offers family storage sharing and AI perks beyond extra space
Engadget reports that Google One plans include family storage sharing, higher Gemini limits and other Google service benefits beyond additional storage.
Subscribers can share their plan with a family group of up to six people, according to the report. Each person's usage counts against their personal free 15GB before it cuts into the shared pool. Family members cannot see one another's files unless they share them normally. The report also noted that plan storage levels represent total storage, not additional space: a 100GB plan gives 100GB total, not 115GB.
Engadget said Google One plans up to the 5TB tier can be paid annually at the equivalent of 10 months' subscription cost, while 10TB and above must be paid monthly.
The two lowest-cost plans, Basic and Standard, do not offer much beyond storage, according to the report. The Google AI Plus plans, at 400GB or 2TB, double Gemini usage compared with users without a plan and restore access to Flash models, which the report said have recently been removed from the free version. AI Plus also adds credits and features in Google Flow, deeper Gemini support in Gmail with integrations and higher usage limits, and looser restrictions in Gemini Notebook.
Google AI Pro, at 5TB or 10TB, raises Gemini limits to four times those of standard free users and gives access to the Gemini 4 Argon model and a larger context window, the report said. It also includes Deep Research, which can check many sources, including data in a user's Google account, to create reports. Outside the chatbot, AI Pro adds more AI tools in Google Docs, Slides and other G Suite apps.
For larger storage needs, the 20TB AI Ultra plan gives five times the Pro tier's Gemini usage limit, and the 30TB AI Ultra plan gives 20 times the Pro tier's usage plus access to the best models and the fewest restrictions in Google Flow and Gemini Notebook, according to Engadget.
The report listed other benefits. On 200GB and 400GB plans, subscribers get 3 percent back on Google Store purchases via store credit; on 2TB and above, that rises to 10 percent. The 2TB plan and higher also unlock 24-hour Google Meet calls, instead of one-hour limits, and enhanced Google Calendar appointment tools. The 5TB plan and above include YouTube Premium Lite, normally $9 per month, Google Home Premium Standard and Google Health Premium, each normally $10 per month, the report said.
