Engadget Reviews Apple Devices, Sonos' Return in 15-Device Roundup

Apple began the month just after Labor Day, and its new devices have now reached stores, according to the roundup. Engadget said the iPhone 18 Pro's camera upgrades are the biggest item on the phones' spec sheets, describing the two devices as temptations until the iPhone Duo arrives. The Apple Watch Series 12 also has a host of updates, including more robust health tracking and some controversial audio tools, though the latter are not available yet.

Apple put active noise cancellation on both versions of the AirPods 5. Engadget said the earbuds are improved, but concluded that only one model needs to exist. The Mac mini and Mac Studio benefit from new chips, though both are more expensive, the roundup said.

Sonos announced new headphones and a new soundbar earlier this month, along with an overhauled audio platform called Sonos 27. Engadget said the Ace Ultra headphones are what the original Ace should have been: a set of headphones that functions as a standalone member of a Sonos system. The review said that feature works well even in its early access state.

The Beam Ultra soundbar's main upgrade is up-firing drivers, according to Engadget, which means it can muster real Dolby Atmos sound instead of just virtualizing the overhead noise.
