EU labels reveal iPhone 18 Pro battery gains as US Pro Max keeps Qualcomm modem
EU energy labels show the iPhone 18 Pro has a 4,056 mAh battery and the Pro Max has a 5,391 mAh battery, up 1.45% and 11.8% year over year. Apple says the Pro Max offers 45 hours of video playback. A tip also says US Pro Max models use a Qualcomm modem instead of Apple's C2.
According to labels applied to the phones in the EU, cited by TechRadar via Android Headlines, the iPhone 18 Pro has a 4,056 mAh battery and the iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 5,391 mAh battery. Those figures represent increases of 1.45 percent and 11.8 percent, respectively, over the prior-year models.
Apple describes the battery bump on the iPhone 18 Pro Max as “the largest increase in battery life ever” on an iPhone, according to TechRadar. The company says the Pro Max can deliver 45 hours of video playback between recharges, while the iPhone 18 Pro offers 36 hours.
TechRadar noted that the published capacities refer to iPhones sold in the EU, which have a physical SIM card slot. Models sold in the US and some other regions are eSIM-only and may have even better batteries inside.
Separately, MacRumors reported that a tip shared on social media suggests every iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max has Apple’s own C2 modem inside, except for iPhone 18 Pro Max models sold in the US, which use a Qualcomm chip. The difference was apparently revealed in iOS 27 code, though it is not confirmed because pre-orders are not shipping until Friday, Sept. 18. The Qualcomm chip is most likely the Snapdragon X85 modem.
TechRadar said there should be no noticeable variation in performance between the Apple C2 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon X85, although Apple says the C2 offers faster speeds than its previous C1X. It is not clear why the Qualcomm chip is being used in that one model, but it may be tied to contractual obligations.
TechRadar also said it will publish impressions of the phones in the coming days and weeks, including the foldable Apple iPhone Duo. The standard iPhone 18 is expected in March alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2, according to the report.
