Ex-DJI Engineers Launch 'World's First Robotic Extreme Zoom Camera' on Kickstarter

FarseerTech, founded by ex-DJI engineers, is crowdfunding the RocXZoom, a robotic extreme zoom camera with 50x hybrid zoom and AI bird recognition.

The Kickstarter campaign has already soared past its original goal, with more than 25 times its target pledged by 350 backers as of writing. Contributions will be accepted until Saturday, September 28, according to TechRadar.

The camera offers a 50x hybrid zoom, 20x optical zoom, and a 40-2000mm equivalent reach. Its onboard AI can recognize over 300 bird species, as well as detect humans and objects. To keep long-distance shots steady, it uses dual stabilization: an integrated gimbal and electronic image stabilization.

The creators describe the RocXZoom as a compact long-range optical assistant that combines recognition, tracking and zoom, with robotic precision to replace traditional long-lens tripods. TechRadar notes that demo shots and hands-on tests look impressive, though there are trade-offs in image quality due to a small 1/2.5-inch sensor and an f/1.8 to f/3.9 lens.

As with any crowdfunded project, backers have no guarantee of receiving a product. The specs, shipping schedule, and final price could change as the campaign continues. However, the camera was shown at CES 2026, which adds credibility, according to TechRadar. The cheapest early bird pledge is $499.
