Ex-New Jersey lieutenant governor says AI platforms found no harassment in report that led to resignation
Ex-New Jersey Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell says AI platforms found no harassment in the report that led to his resignation.
Caldwell has been making the media rounds in an attempt to clear his name. In the NJ PBS interview, he told host Rob Nelson that he had “AIed” the report on the investigation “from multiple AI platforms,” The Verge reported. The publication described his use of AI during the interview as a particularly odd tactic.
“I put it through AI,” Caldwell said, according to The Verge, “and it said 59 times, it [sic] said, ‘What would your findings be?’ There was no instance in any of the AIs that said there would be a finding of sexual harassment.”
Caldwell has claimed he is being unfairly targeted, and he said multiple AI agents support that view, The Verge reported. He resigned after the investigation found he had sexually harassed a staffer and repeatedly violated ethics rules.
The Verge noted that AI chatbots are notoriously sycophantic and often tell users what they want to hear. The publication added that it seems highly unlikely Caldwell would want to hear an AI confirm findings that he engaged in sexual harassment.
