Fairphone sets Fairbuds 2 launch for October 14, priced at $119 in US
Fairphone will launch the Fairbuds 2 on October 14, 2026, starting in Europe and later in the US. The earbuds keep seven replaceable modules and add LDAC support, priced at €119/$119.
The Dutch electronics manufacturer, known for making repairable devices, told The Verge that the Fairbuds 2 will retain the modular approach of the original Fairbuds, with seven replaceable and modular parts. The company did not indicate that repairability would be reduced in the second-generation model; the report says the design is similar to the first pair.
Fairphone is also expanding the Bluetooth capabilities of the new earbuds. The Fairbuds 2 are said to add support for Sony's high-resolution and adaptive LDAC codec, compared with the previous model's support for only SBC and AAC codecs. That change would give compatible listeners access to higher-quality wireless audio, though the announcement did not specify which devices will support the codec.
The launch date and price follow a leak a couple of weeks ago that offered early details about the product. Fairphone's first-generation Fairbuds currently sell in the US for $99, making the Fairbuds 2 $20 more expensive there. In Europe, the new model's €119 price is the first confirmed pricing detail for the second-generation earbuds. The company has not yet published a full specifications list or a complete regional release schedule.
Fairphone's move keeps the company in the small group of consumer electronics makers emphasizing repairability. For earbuds, a category where batteries and charging cases often degrade or are damaged, replaceable components can extend product life. The Fairbuds 2 will enter a market that includes both mainstream wireless earbuds and other repairability-focused products, with Fairphone using its modular design and a slightly higher US price than its previous model as distinguishing details.
