Felix Mobile launches Unlimited+ plan with 80Mbps 5G for AU$50/m
Felix Mobile launches Unlimited+ in Australia, offering unlimited data at up to 80Mbps on Vodafone 5G/4G for AU$50/m.
The report said most telcos in Australia technically offer unlimited mobile data on their plans, but they almost exclusively throttle speeds significantly after customers reach a set amount of consumed data, usually down to around 2Mbps. For data-hungry users, TechRadar said, the only brand providing a genuinely unlimited data service is Felix. The existing Felix Unlimited plan is limited to 40Mbps and costs AU$40 per month, though customers pay only AU$20 for the first three months.
Unlimited+ raises the speed cap to 80Mbps and costs AU$50 per month. It uses Vodafone's 5G and 4G networks, according to TechRadar, and includes unlimited standard calls and texts. Unlimited international calls and texts to more than 40 selected countries are available for an extra AU$5 per month.
Even at 80Mbps, the new plan is slower than many standard 5G and 4G plans from other MVNOs, which TechRadar said usually range from 100Mbps to 150Mbps. The report described 80Mbps as a substantial upgrade from Felix's 40Mbps Unlimited plan for day-to-day use. Everyday browsing, social media and music streaming on Unlimited+ will be virtually identical to a 100-150Mbps mobile plan, and TechRadar argued that even streaming 4K video will perform quite similarly. The biggest difference will be in downloading large files and apps, though the report said users would be better off using their home internet for those tasks.
Like the existing Unlimited plan, Felix only recommends Unlimited+ for personal mobile use, with occasional hotspotting to personal devices such as laptops or tablets while on the go. TechRadar reported that Felix does not recommend the plan to replace a home or office internet plan, or for continuous downloading of large files.
Felix also offers a 7-day guarantee, according to the report. Customers can get a full refund within seven days of activating the plan if they are not satisfied, allowing them to test the data speeds before committing to the service.
