Figma Adds 20 MCP Partners as Co-Founder Calls Protocol Imperfect

Figma adds 20 MCP partners in India; Dylan Field says the protocol is imperfect and favors frontier labs.

The partners include Amp, ClickUp, Dia, Junie by JetBrains, Linear, Meta Muse, Mistral, Notion, OpenCode and Sarvam Agents, Figma said. MCP standardizes how AI agents connect to external data sources and tools. The announcement expands Figma’s support for the protocol.

Field’s concerns surfaced before the event. Days earlier, one of MCP’s co-creators complained that Figma did not support the open-source tool Pi. In a response on X, Field wrote that it was interesting that Anthropic, the creators of the MCP standard, do not expose artifacts or other cloud resources created via MCP. He said the debate was framed as open versus closed and that “everyone always prefers open,” while issues of asymmetric context sharing were ignored. Field later added that Figma plans to support Pi.

At a media briefing, Field told TechCrunch AI that Figma wants to open its ecosystem but that MCP is “not a perfect protocol” with “tons of room for improvement.” He said the protocol is “advantaged more to frontier labs.” He also said he understood users who want a protocol they can use with their Figma data, and that he wants them to use it too.

Figma’s CEO said the company does not want to be fully open because the more data it exposes through MCP, the higher the chance of abuse. He clarified that most users do not intend to use MCP or Figma data maliciously, but the company still has to consider those risks, according to the report.
