Fiio Launches FT15 Planar Magnetic Headphones With Thinner Diamond-Coated Driver

Fiio launched the FT15 planar headphones at $499/£499, featuring a 101mm driver, an 86.7% thinner diaphragm, and a 425g build.

The FT15 uses a 101mm planar driver, larger than the 90mm unit in the FT5. Fiio says its diaphragm is 800nm thick and 86.7 percent thinner than its previous planar driver, and it carries a 'full-face diamond coating' that the company indicates is meant to add stiffness. TechRadar reports that a larger, thinner and stiffer diaphragm is intended to improve dynamic range and detail.

The headphone weighs 425g, 31g less than the FT5, and uses a carbon fiber headband with natural wood earcups. Fiio includes multiple pairs of earpads and adaptors for 4.4mm, 6.35mm and XLR-4 connections. Its sensitivity is 95dB/mW and impedance is 24 ohms, and Fiio says it was designed to work with a range of dongles, digital audio players, amps and CD players, including smaller dongles that do not need external power.

The FT15 joins Fiio's 2026 product line-up alongside the KA15 DAC dongle and FG3 gaming headset. The FT5 launched in 2024 and received a five-star review from TechRadar. TechRadar says the FT15's specification improvements and moderate price increase make it a promising follow-up, but no review has been published yet, and testing will determine whether it earns the same rating.

TechRadar describes the $499/£499 price as not bad for planar magnetic headphones, though the FT15 moves above the FT5's budget positioning. It is available now in a market where Fiio has built a reputation as an affordable audiophile brand.
