Firefox 154 Rolls Out Free VPN, Startpage Search Integration, and GeForce NOW Support

Firefox 154 adds a free VPN for Android/iOS, integrates Startpage search in Europe, and supports GeForce NOW cloud gaming.

The free VPN, introduced with Firefox 149, is now available to Firefox users in the US, Canada, the UK, France, and Germany, and can now be used in Firefox for Android with iOS to follow. Mozilla has temporarily extended the selection of virtual locations to 28 countries until the end of August, PC World reported.

Firefox 154 also begins adding Startpage to its address-bar search options for desktop users in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, with Android and iOS support coming soon. Mozilla said more than a billion searches a year already take place through Firefox using Startpage via extensions or manual settings, and the new integration removes that friction. "When so much of the web experience is decided by a handful of very large companies, a search option that's private by design and European by origin isn't a small thing," a Mozilla blog post said. Ajit Varma, Head of Firefox, said the move gives millions in Europe one-click access to "real results, zero profiling, AI-free."

Startpage, based in the Netherlands, said queries are not stored or linked to users and there are no AI answers pushed above search results. "Firefox has always been the browser for people who want to make their own decisions about the web," said Startpage President Stewart Marlborough, "which makes it a natural home for private search."

Nvidia's GeForce NOW cloud-gaming platform is now officially supported on Firefox, according to an Nvidia blog post. Members can play PC games directly from the browser without waiting for downloads or updates, with GeForce RTX-powered performance at up to 1440p and 120 frames per second for Ultimate members. Firefox joins Chrome, Edge, and Opera in supporting GeForce NOW on Windows browsers. Mozilla's blog post also highlighted Firefox features for gamers, including customizable themes and the ability to run Discord in Split View while gaming.

Mozilla's security report for Firefox 154 lists 58 resolved vulnerabilities, 54 of which were discovered by external researchers, PC World reported. Mozilla classifies 17 of these as high risk. With Firefox 155, scheduled for September 1, Mozilla is switching to a fortnightly release cycle for major versions, matching Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
