Flipcorder Brings Retro Tape-Style Video Recording to iPhone Duo

According to the 9to5Mac report, Flipcorder mimics a real camcorder by saving all footage captured throughout the day to a single tape that holds up to 30 minutes. Users record in 20-second increments rather than as traditional separate video clips, and the app is designed for capturing small, unedited moments by pressing the red record button.

On the iPhone Duo, the app uses the larger inner display to show a preview of the footage alongside a nostalgic user interface. The app also works on all other iPhone models, the report said.

Flipcorder offers VHS and MiniDV style video options, and it can also record high-quality video while using the cassette-style compiled video format. It is available on the App Store for iPhones running iOS 26 and later as a one-time $4.99 purchase, with no additional in-app purchases or ads, according to 9to5Mac.

The app was highlighted in 9to5Mac's weekly Indie App Spotlight series, which showcases indie apps and invites developers to contact the publication for features.
