Floating PC cases put the underside to work as GPU air intakes

Cougar, DarkFlash, MSI and others are using floating or raised PC case designs to feed cooler air toward graphics cards, pairing panoramic style with practical under-chassis intakes.

Several of the designs were shown around Computex 2026. Cougar’s CFV235 separates the PSU cabin from the main component chamber and leaves an open section between them. Tom’s Hardware highlighted the case’s 270-degree airflow when the CFV235 was unveiled. DarkFlash’s Floatron F1 suspends the main chassis above an extended base that draws air through the bottom and sides; PC Gamer described the case at Computex 2026 as “sort of ugly but also sort of neat.” TechRadar says the F1 is aimed at compact M-ATX builds, hides the PSU, and has not yet appeared in stock.

MSI showed its MPG VIXTA 300R Airflow PZ at Computex 2026 with a 75mm recessed section under the main chassis. PC Gamer highlighted its “innovative floating base design,” which gives the case more clearance for incoming air. Hyte also showed the upcoming Y50 RGB, which has a floating base and a stepped internal floor, and Tom’s Hardware noted that its price is relatively affordable.

The space under the case is deliberately designed as part of the intake path, though implementations vary. Cougar uses the open section as a ventilation area, DarkFlash draws air through the bottom and sides of its raised base, and MSI uses the below-chassis space in its lower intake design. Because a GPU usually sits near the bottom of a case, cooler air entering below it can take a relatively direct path to the graphics card.

Some makers achieve a similar effect with a raised base instead of a recessed section. The Phanteks Evolv X2 has wrap-around glass and a raised base that supports bottom-to-top airflow. Tryx’s Luca L70 uses a 40mm X-shaped base to add clearance, and the smaller Luca L50 shown at Computex 2026 has a bottom fan bracket that can sit flat or be angled toward components. TechRadar notes that the extra clearance is helpful when a PC is placed on carpet or the floor, because it keeps bottom intakes away from material that could block airflow.
