Florida Driver and Vehicle Agency Breach Exposes License Data; Former Residents May Miss Alerts
Florida’s highway safety agency says compromised credentials allowed a malicious actor to access department records on Sept. 4, 2026, exposing driver’s license and motor vehicle data. It is offering credit monitoring but may lack current contact details for former residents.
In a notice posted Friday, FLHSMV said it took “immediate steps” after discovering the access. The department said there is “no evidence” that the data has yet been misused. Law enforcement determined that the information potentially affected includes driver license and motor vehicle data, including document images and other personal information, according to the notice.
FLHSMV said it is sending letters to everyone affected and offering one year of credit monitoring from Sontiq, Inc. But the state acknowledged that it may not have current contact information for many former Florida residents whose data was still being stored. As a result, not everyone whose information was stolen will receive an alert, the agency said.
Officials said those potential victims can confirm whether their data was stolen by emailing FLHSMV at customerinquiry@flhsmv.gov.
