Former Tencent Hunyuan Executive Hu Han's Multimodal Startup Seeks Tens of Millions in Funding
Hu Han, formerly of Tencent Hunyuan, has a new multimodal startup that plans to raise tens of millions of dollars at a target valuation of hundreds of millions, Leifeng reports. Yuanshi Capital is the financial adviser.
Multiple investors familiar with the project told Leifeng that several investment institutions had approached Hu Han over the past month. Commercialization was a question investors repeatedly raised in discussions with him, the report said.
The financing window for large-model startups is not as favorable as it was in the previous two years, and a technical team and model capabilities alone are becoming less likely to persuade investors, according to Leifeng. Hu Han's answer on future commercialization differs from those of many startup teams. Some investors relayed that he believes his model could be sold to large technology companies, such as DeepSeek.
Hu Han previously oversaw Tencent Hunyuan's visual large model algorithm center. In March and April 2026, the business line he was responsible for was moved from the system led by Bo Liefeng to the system led by Yao Shunyu. In July 2026, market reports said Hu planned to leave Tencent to start a business.
