Fujifilm's Instax Square 2 instant camera adds analog color filters
Fujifilm's Instax Square 2 adds analog warm and cool filters and Soft Haze film; it is due this month for $119.95.
The Verge reported that a new mood filter switch on the Square 2 slides one of two colored filters in front of the lens. The Warm setting creates a 'subtle golden tone,' while the Cool setting produces 'crisp, blue-toned' results. The camera is expected to be available later this month in slate blue, brick red and misty white color options. Its price matches that of the 2020 SQ1, which also cost $119.95.
Alongside the camera, Fujifilm is introducing a new variety of instant film called Soft Haze. According to The Verge, the film produces shots with reduced color saturation and contrast, plus glowing highlights and warm, diffused shadows. Each film pack will sell for $18.99 for 10 exposures.
The Square 2 has a similar design and layout to the SQ1 but features what The Verge described as a new sculpted body design, with rounded edges. It has an optical viewfinder on the back and a small mirror on the front for framing selfies. A rotating ring on the lens switches between three shooting modes: Close-up, Standard and Landscape. The focus range runs from as close as 0.3 meters to infinity. The camera also offers automatic exposure and automatic adjustments of its xenon flash.
No digital features were listed for the camera, keeping with the analog operation of previous Instax Square models. Fujifilm is offering the Square 2 in three colors and at the same price as the SQ1, while the new Soft Haze film gives users another way to change the look of their instant prints.
