Gaelic Horror Series Wolf Bay to Stream Free From October 23
Gaelic horror Wolf Bay streams free from October 23 on BBC iPlayer in the UK and BBC ALBA's YouTube channel.
The series consists of six short stories and mixes scarier moments with dark comedy, TechRadar reports. It follows Angus as he returns to an isolated island in North Uist for his grandfather's funeral. On a disastrous ferry ride, he is stuck with his ex-girlfriend, her new fiancé and her mean mother, while something more sinister is lurking on the boat.
In the UK, viewers can watch on BBC iPlayer with an account registered to a UK postcode and a valid TV Licence. The BBC ALBA YouTube channel also carries the show for free from October 23. TechRadar says viewers in the US, Canada and Australia can use the BBC ALBA YouTube channel, while BBC iPlayer is not available to them. The report adds that viewers outside the UK can use a VPN to access geo-blocked streams, subject to broadcaster terms and conditions.
The cast includes Andrew MacInnes as Angus, Ellen Macdonald as Màiri, Alasdair Jordan as Colin and Elspeth Turner as Margaret.
Natalie Humphreys, executive producer for Storyboard Studios, said the team knew early on that "there was something really special and different about the material" and that the cast and crew had "put heart and soul into it." Bill Macleod, commissioning editor for MG ALBA, called it "one of the wittiest and most distinctive ideas" and "a whip-smart series that combines sly satire and open-hearted charm."
Gavin Smith, commissioning editor for BBC Scotland, said the short-form episodes are "frightening and funny in equal measure." Kieran Hannigan, head of scripted at Screen Scotland, described Loch nam Madadh as "a bold, Gaelic digital-first drama aimed at young adult audiences" that blends comedy, horror and romance.
